The Style tab in the settings lets you change the appearance of the widget.

Add a shadow

The shadow style places a shadow around the widget in the dashboard. This is available for all widgets.

Select the Shadow option to show the shadow. Click Apply or OK to apply the change.

Clear the Shadow option to remove the shadow.

Padding

The padding changes the margins between the edge of the widget display area and the widget, such as, a title, chart or table. The Padding range is from 0 to 20. This is available for all widgets.

Chart appearance

The charts have additional style options.

Horizontal axis

Selecting the Horizontal axis option switches the horizontal and vertical axes. This is available for Line charts, Bar chart and Stacked bar.

Legend

Selecting the Legend option displays the chart’s legend, helping to identify the chart items. This is available for all charts.

Line interpolation

This changes the style of the line in Line charts only. You can choose from Linear, Cubic and Stepped.

Select the Line interpolation required, then click OK or Apply to apply the changes.

Fill

This is only available in Radar charts.

Select the Fill option, then click OK to apply to apply the changes.

The Fill option fills in the radar chart with colour.

A tabbed view of your dashboard groups together questions on the same page and lets your viewers navigate quickly from one tab to another without the need to go through the pages one by one. 

Insert Select Page

  1. Open the Dashboard in the Edit option.
  2. Click the Insert widget menu, if you cannot see the widgets.
  1. In the Settings menu, select Select Page and drag to the dashboard editor. This inserts a Select Page widget displaying the tab selector and a page break. The number of tabs is determined by the number of existing page breaks. For example, if you already have a page break then there will be 2 tabs, one for the new page break and one for the existing page break.
  1. You can resize the Title box by dragging the resize arrows.

Each tab displays the content on the relevant page. For example, the content between the first and second page break appears when you click the first tab.

Change the tab name

The tab headings use the page break name from the associated page. You can change the name of the page break in the Page break settings.

Set the question type

There are three tab styles: Drop-down, Radio and Tabs. The default is Tabs.

  1. Click on the Settings icon to open the Select page settings.
  2. In Question Type, select the style required.
  3. Click OK to save the changes and exit the settings, or click Apply to apply the changes. Click Cancel to abandon the changes.

Select the initial tab

You can select the initial tab to display when the user opens the dashboard.

  1. Click on the Settings icon to open the Select page settings.
  2. In Initial value, select the initial tab required.
  3. Click OK to save the changes and exit the settings, or click Apply to apply the changes. Click Cancel to abandon the changes.

Changing the style

You can set the shadow and padding in the Style tab.

Adding links to a questionnaire lets you include information kept elsewhere on the internet, such as terms and conditions or privacy policies. Dashboard users will always see the latest version of these documents.

Adding a link

Links are available in Titles, Headings and Narrative.

  1. Place the cursor where you want the link.
  2. Click Insert Link on the Dashboard toolbar. This opens the Link dialog.
  1. Enter the link URL using “https://” to open a secure web page given by the URL.
  2. Click OK to save the changes and add the link.
  3. Edit the display text of the link, if required.

Testing the link

  1. Select the Preview tab to view the dashboard.
  1. Click the link to make sure it goes to the correct webpage or email.

Editing the link URL

  1. Select the Edit tab to edit the link URL
  2. Click on the link, then click Edit.
  1. Make the changes to the URL, then click Save.

Removing the link

  1. Select the Edit tab
  1. Click on the link, then click Remove.

There are two ways to add an image to a dashboard:

  • adding an Image widget, useful for individual images
  • inserting an image into a Title, Heading or Narrative, useful for a combination of text and images

Adding an Image widget

  1. Open the Dashboard in the Edit option.
  2. Click the Insert widget menu, if it is not shown.
  1. In the Text & images menu, select Image and drag to the dashboard editor.
  2. Click the Select Image button.
  3. Select the image file.
  4. Click Open.
  5. You can resize the Image box by dragging the resize arrows.

In the Settings, you can set the shadow and padding in the Style tab.

Insert an image in text

  1. Position the cursor in the text at the location where you require the image.
  2. Click Insert image from the toolbar.
  1. Select the image file.
  2. Click Open. This inserts the image at the cursor location.

Maximum number of images

You can add a maximum of 5 images to a dashboard. You can keep track of the images in Dashboard properties.

  1. Open the Dashboard in the Edit option.
  2. Click the Dashboard properties menu. This shows how many images you have used.

Inserting a variable field lets you change text in your dashboard. You can customize instructions and other text, based on survey variables or system settings, such as, interview date and time information.

  1. Position the cursor in the text at the location where you require the variable field.
  2. Click Insert variable field from the toolbar.
  1. The Variable list contains all the variables and system settings for the dashboard. Select the variable that you want to use.
  1. In Aspect, select the type of text to insert. There are two aspects to choose from: Label inserts the question response; Name inserts the question number.
  2. In Text Transformation, choose the case to display the text: UPPER CASE, lower case, Sentence case or Title Case.
  3. Click OK to save the changes to the dashboard. This displays the variable field inside brackets, for example, {Q2:Label}. This is a placeholder that is replaced by the variable field when a user is viewing the dashboard.

The breaks available for dashboards are Separator, Spacer and Page break.

Separator

The separator draws a line that separates different parts of the dashboard.

  1. Open the Dashboard in the Edit option.
  2. Click the Insert widget menu, if you cannot see the widgets.
  1. In the Breaks menu, select Separator and drag to the dashboard editor.
  2. You can resize the separator by dragging the resize arrows. This changes the separation area, but the line width remains the same.

Spacer

The spacer provides a blank space between dashboard content.

  1. Open the Dashboard in the Edit option.
  2. Click the Insert widget menu, if you cannot see the widgets.
  1. In the Breaks menu, select Spacer and drag to the dashboard editor.
  2. You can resize the spacer by dragging the resize arrows.

Page break

Page breaks separate the dashboard content onto separate pages. This can be used to create tabs that select different pages.

  1. Open the Dashboard in the Edit option.
  2. Click the Insert widget menu, if you cannot see the widgets.
  1. In the Breaks menu, select Page break and drag to the dashboard editor.
  2. You can name the page break. Click on the settings icon, enter a description and click OK.

Tables show the response data in a grid structure using rows and columns, where each cell contains specific information. This helps the dashboard users understand the responses to the survey.

There are four table layouts available.

  • Crosstab is also known as a contingency table. It shows the relationship between two or more categorical variables, such as comparing age by department.
  • Frequency tables show the frequency distribution of various categories or values in the data responses, commonly used to show one-variable data.
  • Grid tables display related variable data in rows and columns. 
  • Statistics tables provide a quick overview of key statistics, such as the mean, median, standard deviation, and count for different variables.

Insert a table

  1. Open the dashboard and select the Insert widget menu.
  1. In the Tables menu, select the table and drag to the dashboard editor. This adds the table to the dashboard and opens the table settings.
  2. In Title, enter the title description for the table .
  3. The Type defaults to the table type you selected in the menu, but you can change the table type to any of the available charts or tables.

Table settings

There are four tabs: Definition, Calculate, Include and Style.

  • The Definition tab defines which data is used in the table .
  • The Calculate tab gives the option to select how the data is calculated.
  • The Include tab gives the option to include responses with errors, not asked or no reply.
  • The Style tab gives the option to display a shadow and customise the padding.

Definition

Each table definition is set to the default for its table type, when created. You can change the Type to the options:

  • 2-D includes both Rows (Analysis) and Columns (Break)
  • 1-D includes Rows (Analysis)
  • Grid
  • Descriptive statistics
  1. In Rows (Analysis), click the Select button and choose a variable from the list, then click OK. You can select more than one variable.
  2. In Columns (Break), click the Select button and choose a variable from the list, then click OK. You can select more than one variable.
  3. In Filter, enter the filter criteria, e.g. Q1=2
  4. Select Transpose, if you want to transpose the table .

Calculate

This tab determines how the data is calculated.

For the Crosstab, Frequency and Grid tables:

  1. Choose the Cells option from Counts, Row persents, Column percents or Total percents
  2. Choose the Base option from Response or Respondents.

For the Statistics table:

  1. Select the statistics from Count, Sum, Mean, Min, Max, Range.
  2. Choose the Base option from Response or Respondents.

Include

  1. Select Errors if you want to include data with errors
  2. Select Not Asked if you want to include data that was not asked
  3. Select No Reply if you want to include data that had no reply

Style

In the Style tab, you can set the shadow and padding.

Save and Apply

  • Click OK to save all the changes.
  • Click Apply to apply the changes.
  • Click Restore to return to the original values, if the chart was edited.
  • Click Cancel to abandon the changes.

Resize the table

You can resize the table box by dragging the resize arrows.

Examples

Crosstab

The Crosstab table displays the number of guests that used each facility at the hotel they visited.

The Columns show Q4, the facility used, and the Rows show the hotel location, with the Transpose option set.

Frequency

A simple Frequency table showing the guest count at each hotel location.

The Rows are set to the location, and other options are left as the default settings.

Grid

The Grid table showing the guest count at each hotel location.

The Rows are set to the location, and other options are left as the default settings.

Statistics

The Statistics tables shows the count, sum, mean, min, max and range for the total bill.

Charts show the response data in a visual format, helping individuals understand the responses to the questions. The chart layouts available for dashboards include line charts, bar charts, pie charts, doughnut charts and gauges.

  • Line charts show data points connected with straight lines to show how a value changes over a continuous variable, usually time. 
  • Bar charts compare different categories or variables using the bar length to show the value.
  • Stacked bar charts are used to show how the main category is divided into smaller categories. The full bar represents the total for a category, and each segment shows how much a sub‑category contributes to that total.
  • Pie charts shows how the total is split into different parts.
  • A donut chart is a pie chart with a circular hole in the centre. The ring shows how a total splits into different parts.
  • A gauge measures and gives a visual display of the amount, level, or contents of something.
  • A radar chart is a visual display showing multiple data points and the variation between them, for three or more quantity variables. 

Insert a chart

  1. Open the Dashboard in the Edit option.
  1. In the Charts menu, select the chart you want and drag to the dashboard editor. This opens the chart settings with the chart type selected.
  2. In Title, enter the title description for the chart.
  3. The Type defaults to the chart type you selected in the menu, but you can change the chart type to any of the available charts or tables.

Chart settings

There are four tabs: Definition, Calculate, Include and Style.

Examples

Bar chart

The bar chart shows the visitor age range at each hotel.

Rows contains the Location and the Columns contains the age range of the visitor. Transpose is on.

Pie chart

The pie chart shows the visitor age range at all hotel locations.

Rows contains the age range of the visitor.

Line chart

The line chart shows the arrival day of hotel visitors over the week.

Rows contains the derived variable that calculates the day of the week that the visitors arrive.

Adding text to your dashboard helps the user understand what information they are looking at and can give additional information not contained on the analysis. You can also include links, images and variable fields in the text.

  1. Open the Dashboard in the Edit option.
  2. Click the Insert widget menu.

Headings

Headings are used to group together related content.

  1. Open the Dashboard in the Edit option.
  2. Click the Insert widget menu.
  1. In the Text & images menu, select Heading and drag to the dashboard editor.
  1. Enter the heading description in the box.
  2. You can resize the Heading box by dragging the resize arrows.

In the Settings, you can set the shadow and padding in the Style tab.

Narrative

Narrative provides wording that explains the content in more detail, or provide instructions to the user.

  1. Open the Dashboard in the Edit option.
  2. Click the Insert widget menu.
  1. In the Text & images menu, select Narrative and drag to the dashboard editor.
  1. Enter the text information in the box.
  2. You can resize the Narrative box by dragging the resize arrows.

In the Settings, you can set the shadow and padding in the Style tab.

Formatting the text

The text formatting toolbar contains options to format the text and paragraph layout.

These include:

  • Font style options: bold, italic, underline and strikethrough
  • Text colour and background color
  • Paragraph style options: numbered list, bullet list, decrease indent, increase indent and align
  • Font selection, font size and paragraph header style selection

Place the cursor where you want the style to begin, or select the text you want to change, then select the formatting option.
